Guest Posting – An Effective Artform
Do Guest Blogging by Creating a Value Packed Video Guest Post
Today we will be talking about guest posting, which is quite possibly the easiest and most effective form of promotion bloggers can engage in. Guest posting involves creating content and posting it to someone else’s blog instead of the blog you own. There are two reasons bloggers do this. Number one, it is standard to allow a guest blogger to put a link back to their site in their post. This helps the guest’s search engine optimization efforts and allows the owner’s audience to click through to the guest author’s site. Second, guest posting allows newer authors access to the audience of more established authors. In the world of SEO, this benefit is often overlooked. Focusing on links while ignoring the potential to capture audience members is unfortunate, as it is much harder to build an audience than it is to build a link.

With that said, there are certain rules you must follow if you are to become an effective guest poster. For starters, you need to make sure you have something valuable to offer to the owner’s community. While it may seem enticing to guest post on a technology blog that has ten thousand readers, your guest post will be a complete failure if your content has nothing to do with technology. Given this, you need to focus on the potential audience of the blog you want to post on before contacting the author.
Think about the content that normally appears on that blog. Can you create something similar? Can you create something that would benefit that audience? Do you know something the author might not know? If you can figure out a way to provide value to that author’s audience, your guest post will become exponentially more powerful than if you simply provide the owner with a post that you think is interesting. It’s not about you; it’s about the audience.
Assuming you can provide value to the audience, you need to get in touch with the author to see if they will allow your guest post. The easiest way to do this is to slowly build a relationship with them before asking for the favor. Comment on a few of their blog posts, and retweet some of their tweets. Whatever you do, make sure your interactions are genuine. If you are commenting on a post that no one else liked, it may be obvious you are trying to get something. If you can contribute to existing conversation in a meaningful way, however, the author will take note of you and will be more open to requests from you in the future.
Pack Your Guest Blog Post With Video Value
Once you have the author’s permission to create a guest post, make sure your post is packed with value. Do whatever you can to absolutely wow the author’s audience. Assuming you create a good post, it should lead to lots of blog comments and social media shares. This will reinforce to the owner that you did a good job, confirming his or her decision to work with you. Further, this will benefit the author as blog comments and social media shares are good for SEO. And last but not least, by creating a value packed post (include a video, for example), you are likely to capture audience members who click over to learn more about you and your Vlog when they are finished reading your post. It is truly a win-win situation all around.
