Pros and Cons for Ghostwriters – Analysis of The 2 Top Job Marketplaces

Upwork

Upwork is one of the most popular job sites today, because of its user interface and excellent customer service for both employers and freelancers.

Pros

1. The user interface and the communication system set up through the message center for Upwork users is a joy to use.

2. Upwork offers new freelancers a chance to prove their credentials by taking different skill tests. The results are displayed on freelancer’s profile pages and are indicative of good training.

Cons

1. The transaction process which can take up to a fortnight to process can be quite painful for both the client who wants their work delivered and the employer who wants to get paid.

2. Fixed-price jobs have a “do it at your own peril” tagline attached to them. This means that Upwork discourages freelancer from taking fixed price jobs because they cannot guarantee the payment.

Freelancer

One of the oldest freelancing website that has acquired several smaller job sites over the years to form a larger resource pool for both employers and freelancers.

Pros

1. Freelancer might not be the largest or the top moneymaking job site around but it is the most reputable because it was the first freelance job site that made an impact.

2. Payments are released to freelancers as soon as the employer completes the transaction. There is no waiting around for days to get your paycheck.

Cons

1. Freelancer leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to their message center. They are still using the bare minimum when Elance and Upwork offer video chatting, and instant replying straight from your personal email rather then tediously having to log on to their platform to reply to a simple message.

2. Freelancer charges both the employer and the freelancer a flat service charge or a percentage of the project’s budget. So, they end up costing almost double what most job sites do.
